Metatarsal Shaft Pad
When should it be used?
A metatarsal shaft pad can be used in the management of common conditions that cause metatarsalgia. It can also be used to assist with straightening a hammered or clawed toe.
1 First Steps
Start by cutting a semi-compressed felt pad approximately the same length as the metatarsal and width as the corresponding toe, then top bevel it
2 Rounding the corners
If you feel it would be beneficial then round of the corners of the pad.
3 Cutting a crescent
Cut a small crescent into one end of the pad.
The side of the pad with the crescent will sit just behind the metatarsal phalangeal joint.
4 Final Steps
Peel off the paper backing and apply the pad to the foot.
If you feel it needs to be secured then consider using strapping.
